A national trade group will be offering 25 scholarships to eligible bicycle retailers to attend this year’s National Bike Summit, being
held March 3-5 in Washington, D.C.
In a move to get more retailers to the advocacy event, the National Bicycle Dealers Association in partnership with the League of American Bicyclists is providing 25 scholarships to local shop and bike collective leaders.
Many notable bicycle advocates and business people attend the annual meeting which is both an energizer for the bicycle movement as well as an opportunity for attendees to find out what is happening around the country. In 2011, Janette Sadik Khan, the previous transportation chief for New York spoke to the audience.
People who attend also have the opportunity to meet with their local law makers in D.C., visiting their offices to discuss policy issues of importance to the cycling world. In 2011, DOT also was in the process of choosing the finalists for the city’s bike share, news that became front page only at the summit.
Applications for the scholarships are due tomorrow, January 15th. The $1,000 scholarship covers registration fees and a stipend to assist with travel and lodging.
The organization stipulates the following eligibility requirements for applicants:
1) You must be an owner or manager of at a bike shop, co-op or collective
2) Your shop must be a member of NBDA (or in the process of becoming a member)
3) You must be a first-time attendee of the National Bike Summit
Applications are due Wednesday, January 15th.
