Driver Charged in Cyclist Hit and Run on Long Island

A Long Island man has been charged for the hit-and-run death of a bicyclist whose body was found lying on the side of the road

Driver on Long Island who killed cyclist Ricardo Fernandez, 44, then fled the scene, leaving him to die in the weeds on the side of the road.

Sunday.

The 44-year-old cyclist Ricardo Fernandez, of Amityville, NY was found by a passing driver on Express Drive North in Dix Hills Sunday morning.

Albert DiBernardo of Melville, Long Island was arrested Monday night and charged with leaving the scene without reporting an incident that involved a fatality.

Police say Fernandez was riding a racing bicycle.

The crash occurred at around 10 a.m. on the westbound Long Island Expressway service road. Police say they found a mangled bicycle frame when they arrived at the scene, as well as Fernandez’s body lying in the weeds.
