Central Park Race to Benefit Children Needs Bike Escorts, Runners

New York, NY, February 1, 2013

The 2nd Annual Halachic Organ Donor Society Race will take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, in Central Park to raise money for the Halachic Organ Donor Society, and they need at least two cycling escorts for the race.

They are also welcoming participants to the race.

The mission of HODS is to save lives by increasing organ donations from Jews to all of humanity.

HODS raises awareness of halachic (Jewish legal) support for organ donation and provides a unique halachic organ donor card.

A 10-year-old Jewish boy was injured in a car accident in New York City not too long ago. When he arrived at the hospital he was declared brain dead. The Halachic Organ Donor Society facilitated consultation between several rabbis and his family who ultimately chose organ donation.

As a result, eight children’s lives were saved.

There will be a 5K and 10K race (walkers are welcome) that will be run by adults as well as pre-teens (ages 8-12).

Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in both race categories, including an iPhone, an iPad, and other prizes. A round-trip ticket to Israel will be awarded to the person who raises the highest amount for HODS.

HODS has saved more than 200 lives, educated more than 330,000 Jews about organ donation and has recruited hundreds of rabbis to carry organ donor cards.

To act as a cycling escort, please contact Julie at jb@hods.org or at 212-470-0016.

To register, visit www.hods.org/race, email jb@hods.org, or call (212) 213-5087.

There is a $100 fee ($50 for student and preteens ages 8-12 register for free). All participants will also have the option of creating an internet fundraising page instead of paying the fee where they can raise the fee money.
