A new book about Eddy Merckx, the infamous racer that dominated his generation so much that his tag name was the Cannibal, has hit the book stores.
Written and compiled by Ron Reuman, Stephan Vanfleteren, Jan Maes, and Frederik Backelandt “Merckx 525” is a biography with many previously unseen private photos said David Trendler, Press agent for the publisher VeloPress.
Known as “the Cannibal” for his insatiable hunger to win, Merckx gobbled up 525 race victories during his cycling career. He can now frequently be seen on the winner presentation stage at the Tour de France, or in the race director’s follow car.
The new biography that is apparently authorized by the cyclist presents 126 newly restored photographs from private collections, the Merckx family, and European newspaper archives.
“Merckx 525 is a unique collection of exclusive photographs, including some that even I had not seen before, ” said Merckx in a statement. “It is the only work authorized by me.and the first truly complete record of my accomplishments.”
The book contains 224 pages, is priced at $60, and can be bought at most major bookstores. See the VeloPress site for a list.
