Fire that Engulfed Parts of Nyack, Causes Smoky Conditions

Cyclists heading up to Nyack, NY this weekend will encounter the aftermath of a large fire that consumed parts of the back

A fire west of Nyack, NY that occurred this week is causing smoky conditions in the area.

hills.

Those hills, known mostly for Clausland Rd., are often used by cyclists to enter Nyack from the west, and are considered more challenging and more car free than either Route 9W or Piermont Road.

Sadly, the fire burned large swaths of the area’s public parks.

No word so far on how the fires were started, and if any homes or human life was lost.

Wrote a member of the Road Dawgs, a Tenafly, NJ,  cycling group, on their email exchange,  “The access roads to the mountain are closed obviously. If you do bike around the area be aware of increased deer population being chased out of the woods according to reports.”
