Two British cyclists who were traveling around Thailand by bicycle and documenting it in their blog were killed by a
young driver who leaned down to pick up his cap while driving his truck.
The 25-year-old driver was released pending an investigation. In Thailand, killing someone with your motor vehicle can result in up to 10 years in jail, according to Yahoo News.
British couple Peter Root and Mary Thompson, both 34, who were killed Wednesday Feb. 13, 2013 in a province East of Bangkok according to Thai police.
Thai Police Lt. Col. Supachai Luangsukcharoen said Monday that investigators found their bodies, their bicycles and their belongings scattered along a roadside, along with a pickup truck that crashed between some trees, reported Yahoo.
Supachai said the truck driver, 25-year-old Worapong Sangkhawat, was seriously injured in the crash.
Peter Root and Mary Thompson, who had been chronicling their journey in the blog Tour on Four Wheels, were both 34 and from Guernsey in the Channel Islands. They left Britain in July 2011 and had cycled through Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and China.
The couple, who met in art school had spent six years saving money and planning their first ever such journey.
