August 14, 2012

The man who died in the NY-NJ Ironman on Saturday was identified as Andy Naylor, a senior officer of the Hong Kong Police force according to media reports.

Naylor was taken from the water during the 2.4 mile swim portion of the Aquadraat Ironman Championship. He later died at the Englewood Hospital in New Jersey.

The 43-year-old had survived a bicycle accident last year. The swim portion of the race was nearly canceled on Thursday after health officials in Tarrytown, NY, some 40 miles upstream from the race location, said there had been a sewage release into the Hudson River that could affect athletes’ health.
