Frank Schleck has confirmed that one of his blood samples has turned up positive for Xipamide, a diuretic banned under the World Anti-Doping Agency, according to Cycling News.
Cycling News also reported that the RadioShack-Nissan rider “pulled out of the Tour de France after learning of the initial positive test, and stated today that he witnessed the B-sample test at the AFLD laboratory in Châtenay-Malabry.”
That information has not been independently confirmed.
“The result of the counter test was positive but for me nothing changes: I just know that I did nothing wrong,” Schleck said in a press release. “I will therefore continue my search to find out how the substance could have entered my body.”
Schleck was one of the promising GC riders for this year’s Tour. Last year he was third on the podium in Paris.
Earlier reports to the press stated that Schleck abandoned the Tour due to illness, not due to the tests, as reported now by Cycling News.
